  • Opportunity to provide statistical support to a research group of the Sydney School of Public Health in the Faculty of Medicine and Health

  • Full time, fixed term until 31st May 2025

  • Base Salary starting from $113,184 + 17% superannuation

About the opportunity

As a Biostatistician, you will be in a research-focused academic Level B position working within the School of Public Health. You will have the opportunity to refine your expertise in health services and inequalities research and contribute to the University's standing as a national leader in the discipline.

You will have the opportunity to lead statistical analyses of large-scale administrative datasets as part of an externally funded project on ethnic inequalities in receipt of evidence-based care for cardiovascular disease. The research will involve a novel data linkage that will be linking the Australian Census and other Commonwealth health datasets to NSW health data.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • develop and implement complex statistical analysis plans to examine inequalities in the incidence, prognosis and receipt of evidence-based care for cardiovascular disease by ethnicity

  • work within a tight-knit team, reporting to the Associate Professor

  • enhance a research profile that meets University expectations and standards

  • provide high-quality statistical advice and support to researchers, collaborators and research students

  • for interested applicants to contribute to biostatistical methods teaching in the school.

About you

This is a perfect opportunity for a Biostatistician to extend their expertise in health services research, causal inference methods and health inequalities research. An ideal candidate should have:

  • a PhD in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Data Science or related discipline

  • relevant publications within Biostatistics, health services research or other related field and an interest in further establishing their academic track record

  • an interest in research aimed at reducing health system inequalities, including those experienced by refugees and asylum seekers

  • high level statistical and data analysis skills in advanced analytic methods including causal inference and prognostic/risk prediction modelling

  • proven experience in using statistical software including either Stata or R

  • evidence of strong data management skills and experience with managing large linked administrative datasets

  • demonstrated capacity to communicate effectively

  • demonstrated capacity to work as part of team and build relationships with other collaborators and stakeholders

  • demonstrated ability to organise and prioritise work, sometimes under pressure with competing priorities and sometimes limited supervision.
