The Raine Study

  • Level 6, part-time (0.6FTE) appointment on 2-year fixed term contract
  • Base salary range: $84,665 - $89,477 p.a. plus 17% superannuation

About the team 

The Raine Study is one of the largest successful prospective cohorts of pregnancy, childhood, adolescence, and now young adulthood to be carried out anywhere in the world. The Raine Study is a rich resource for researchers. Prospective longitudinal data has been collected at multiple time-points over pregnancy, infancy, childhood, adolescence and young adulthood. There are numerous stored biological samples. There are established collaborative research networks across a wide variety of disciplines. The index participants (approximately 2000) are now around 32 years of age and their parents are now around 60 years of age. There are currently more than 150 researchers from 14 broad areas of research utilising the Raine Study data. Over 50 peer reviewed journal papers are published each year on the Raine Study.

About the opportunity 

Reporting to the Data and Biosamples Manager, you will contribute to the management activities of the Raine Study’s biosamples, coordinate their curation and advise on their preparation and distribution. You will also contribute to developing procedures for the collection of new biosamples at new follow-ups and provide advice to researchers regarding the use of biosamples.

To be considered for this role, you will demonstrate:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in biological sciences, science or a relevant discipline or demonstrated equivalent competency
  • Considerable relevant experience in managing and developing biological sample quality assurance processes - from collection to curation and storage to retrieval
  • Experience working with longitudinal data and biological samples
  • Knowledge of research methodology and good clinical practice
  • Ability to work well as part of a multidisciplinary team as well as independently
