  • Base Salary HEO5/6, $79,717 - $98,796 p.a. + 17% superannuation

About the opportunity

The School of Mathematics and Statistics are welcoming applications for a Bioinformatics Research Officer/Assistant to join their team in helping extract meaningful insights from highly multiplexed single cell resolution datasets.

The incumbent will be expected to collaborate on projects spanning multiple diseases including multiple sclerosis, cardiovascular disease, cancer, organ transplant and infectious disease. We also work with various high-throughput technologies including single-cell RNA-Seq, CyTOF and imaging mass cytometry.

The successful applicant will be a member of the Bioinformatics Cluster in the Sydney Precision Data Science Centre , a research collective positioned at the interface of biomedical and data science. In addition, they will also be affiliated and work across the Westmead Institute for Medical Research as well.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • perform bioinformatics data analysis on a range of collaborative projects
  • interact with collaborators across the country and internationally to communicate results
  • document and share analytical strategies to support reproducible research and contribute to the maintenance and development of various software packages
  • track progress and timelines of interdisciplinary projects within the group to ensure their timely completion.

About you

  • an undergraduate degree in statistics, bioinformatics, data science or relevant discipline
  • demonstrated ability to conduct research / scholarly activities under limited supervision and as part of a multidisciplinary research team
  • strong general IT skills, including familiarity with Linux/Unix environments and HPC server
  • experience with the analysis of large biomedical data sets coupled with R package programming and development (highly regarded)
  • ability to assist researchers from other disciplines as well as work with PhD students within the bioinformatics research group (highly regarded).
