Overview 
The Azure Cloud Infrastructure Engineer works as part of ECU’s Technical Services Team who are responsible for the critical IT (Information Technology) infrastructure than underpins all the University’s information technology environments. This includes managing, monitoring, operating, and refreshing the environment according to best practice to supply a robust and high performing architecture to the University. The team is responsible for the effective, efficient operation and full lifecycle of the server technology stack (generally) up to but not including the applications.

The Role 
The Azure Cloud Engineer (known internally as the Senior Technical Analyst) is responsible for designing, building, and configuring highly available server infrastructure for the University's on-campus and Azure public cloud environments. Key areas of responsibility include the effective configuration, operation, and management of all server infrastructure environments (with primary focus on Azure public cloud) to help deliver resilient, highly performing/available systems and associated services to the University.

To be successful in this role you will need to have following key attributes/experience:

  • 5+ years’ experience working in and managing large and complex server environments in production scenarios.
  • Wide IT Infrastructure background covering (networks, databases, storage etc)
  • In depth understanding of system Cloud operations tooling (Azure experience ideal).
  • Experience using and configuring automation tools such as Ansible, Puppet, Terraform or similar. Good understanding of distributed version control systems such as Azure DevOps, GitHub etc.
  • Good understanding of Windows Server and Red Hat Linux Server operating systems.
  • Have demonstrated significant hands-on experience with maintaining and managing server infrastructure, both physical and virtual.
  • Good knowledge of scripting languages such as PowerShell, BASH, or similar and good understanding of JSON. Confidence working with Infrastructure as Code, specifically Azure Resource Manager (ARM) templates will be highly regarded.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to communicate and articulate to all levels of university stakeholders clearly and effectively.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to present to peers as well as producing high quality verbal and written communication (particularly technical documentation skills).
  • Ability to guide and mentor members of the Technical Services Team.
  • Comfortable with potentially participating in an on-call roster

This full time, ongoing position attracts remuneration of $109,252 to $122,414 inclusive of superannuation.
