About the opportunity

We seek to appoint 2x highly motivated Associate Researchers in Biostatistics to significantly contribute to our research programs. The Associate Researchers in Biostatistics will join a team based at the Sydney School of Public Health, the Centre for Kidney Research (CKR), and the ARC Centre of Excellence in Population Ageing Research (CEPAR)'s University of Sydney School of Public Health node.

The Sydney School of Public Health is a network of researchers, research groups, and centres that facilitate public health study. Offering educational and research opportunities, the school's work is recognised as an institutional strength for the University. The school is widely known for its strengths in biostatistics and epidemiology.

Clinical research program at the Centre for Kidney Research (CKR) is broad-ranging and aims to improve outcomes in children and adults with or at risk of kidney disease. Clinical research group at CKR conduct and implement high-priority research in the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and care of people with or at risk of chronic kidney disease and related conditions. CKR clinical research group's research and teaching expertise spans epidemiology, biostatistics, health economics, qualitative methods, and evidence synthesis, which apply to chronic kidney disease and other health conditions.

The Clinical Group of the CKR is located at Kids Research, The Children's Hospital at Westmead. It is affiliated with the Sydney School of Public Health, The University of Sydney. The CKR (Clinical Group) sits within the Nephrology department of the Children's Hospital at Westmead. The clinical research group involves approximately 50 multidisciplinary researchers, clinicians, and administration staff. The laboratory research group based in the KRI has 8 students and scientists and is focused on immunology and genetics of kidney disease and transplantation.

The ARC Centre of Excellence in Population Ageing Research (CEPAR) is a unique collaboration that brings together academia, government, and industry. CEPAR's innovative research provides global solutions to the economic and social challenges of population ageing and builds a new generation of researchers to an international standard with an appreciation of the multidisciplinary nature of population ageing.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

• Collaborate with a specialised research team, reporting to both Professor Armando Teixeira-Pinto and Dr Saman Khalatbari Soltani
• Work independently and as part of the research team to undertake quantitative research, including data collection, analysis and writing up of results
• Assist in coordinating the project investigator meetings, workshops and group meetings
• Conduct report or publication writing for knowledge-sharing purposes
• Complete ad-hoc tasks, activities or requirements as requested

About you

• Masters or PhD in biostatistics, statistics, or closely related field
• Proven statistical programming experience with R software; experience in working with Stata (desirable)
• Experience in analysis of large complex data sets (e.g., longitudinal cohorts data, linked national data)
• Demonstrated accuracy, attention to detail and highly organised, with the ability to work according to strict deadlines and manage various demands
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to use initiative and exercise sound judgement and the ability to prioritise workload during busy periods
• Exceptional communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
• Driven researcher with clear initiative and judgement to progress the research work
• Ability to conduct presentations, scientific writing, and assist with workshops or conferences
• Ability to travel across sites or for conferences as needed.
