About the opportunity

The Faculty of Medicine and Health is the largest faculty in the University of Sydney, and contains seven academic schools, including Sydney Medical School (SMS). We are seeking to appoint an outstanding academic medical practitioner as Professor or Associate Professor in Adolescent Medicine. This position will lead the teaching and research program in Adolescent Health in the Sydney Medical School from the Children's Hospital at Westmead Clinical School and contribute to the wider field of Adolescent Health across the Faculty and University.

The position requires a highly motivated individual with strong leadership skills who is passionate about improving adolescent health through research, education and clinical care. The Associate Professor/Professor reports to the Head of Childrens Hospital at Westmead Clinical School of Sydney Medical School for their academic duties. The successful applicant will also provide clinical care in adolescent health through a separate NSW Health appointment with SCHN (CHW) reporting to the relevant head of clinical department.

About you (Skills, capabilities and experience)

The below specifies the essential and desirable criteria for appointment at Level E (Professor). Applications for appointment at Level D (Associate Professor) will be considered from outstanding candidates who do not completely fulfil all criteria to the level specified. The level of appointment (Professor or Associate Professor) will be determined during the selection process, based on experience and track record.

The successful candidate:

  • must be a medical practitioner registered or eligible to be registered in Australia with APHRA, with skills comparable to an Australian trained subspecialist practicing in Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine (AYAM) as recognised by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP or equivalent).
  • must have an international reputation as an authority in Adolescent Health or related area of expertise with evidence of successful leadership of a program of research profile including competitive research grants, publications and evidence of recognition within the broader research community.
  • must have a distinguished record of scholarly teaching excellence as shown by successful student outcomes, demonstrated impact on student learning, and best practice higher degree research supervision.
  • must have the ability to contribute to the development of a culture of excellence in medical education and research that is underpinned by evidence-based practice.
  • must have a wide network of established relationships with key academic, industry and professional institutions, partners and stakeholders that can be leveraged to enhance the standing of the discipline, School/ Faculty and University.

Term and remuneration

The successful candidate will be offered a continuing position, subject to completion of a satisfactory probation period and confirmation period with agreed performance. The successful candidate will be offered an attractive remuneration package commensurate with the responsibilities of the position and the candidate's relevant experience and qualifications. Applicants with suitable qualifications will be eligible for an NSW Health Clinical academic salaried role in Adolescent Health at SCHN Children' at Westmead Hospital
