Play a pivotal role in leading clinical services and innovative research within the Spinal Unit

An exciting and unique new role is being offered in partnership between the University of Adelaide and Central Adelaide Local Health Network, (known as CALHN) which has both a clinical and academic focus in Orthopaedics and Trauma based in the spinal surgery unit.

This key leadership position will see you play an important role in development of best practice models of care at the Royal Adelaide Hospital while maintaining a program of research in spinal surgery and attracting competitive research funding. You will lead a team providing high quality patient focused spinal clinical services and grow and maintain a strong culture of teaching and mentorship. 

You will work closely and collaborate with colleagues within both the Spinal Surgery Unit based at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and the University of Adelaide.

The successful candidate will be appointed to an academic position within the University of Adelaide (Associate Professor or Professor) and a clinical Head of Unit position with the Central Adelaide Local Health Network. The exact distribution of duties and level of appointment will depend on the experience of the successful candidate.

To be successful you will need:

• A PhD or equivalent higher academic qualification.
• A medical degree registrable by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
• Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons or an equivalent qualification allowing registration as a Specialist Surgeon in South Australia A commitment to excellence and demonstrated high level skills in teaching undergraduate medical students, interns and medical trainees, and in the mentorship of staff at all levels.
• A commitment to excellence and demonstrated high level skills in teaching undergraduate medical students, interns and medical trainees, and in the mentorship of staff at all levels.
• Proven ability to manage teaching programs including an understanding of course design and evaluation.
