Opportunity

The University of Melbourne, Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences is seeking to employ a Level D (Associate Professor) or Level E (Professor) academic to join our Indigenous health leadership within the Faculty. This new position will be a joint Faculty and Melbourne School of Health Sciences (MSHS) appointment as part of a workforce strategy to grow the number of senior Indigenous staff. Over time the role will be fully funded and supported by the MSHS.

Ideally, the successful applicant will have a background in one of these discipline areas of the school, and will make leadership, research and teaching contributions in Indigenous health. They will also lead the development and implementation of the School Strategy as it relates to Indigenous Health.

This position represents an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team committed to undertaking research and Indigenous-informed teaching that draws on the strengths and knowledge of Indigenous peoples and communities to understand the pathways to health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

About you

Ideally, the appointee will be a leading Indigenous academic, PhD qualified with experience in conducting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health research or public health and developing and delivering culturally safe curricula.

You will also possess;

  • Evidence of distinguished national standing in your discipline
  • A record of achievement in competitive research grants
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in developing and leading cross-disciplinary collaborations
  • Evidence of a strong track record of postgraduate, post-doctoral and mid-career research supervision and mentorship
  • Highly developed leadership skills
