About the opportunity

This outstanding opportunity involves teaching and conducting research in the field of animal husbandry, welfare, and production. It plays a crucial role in developing new courses for the Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Bachelor of Veterinary Technology programs, which are scheduled to begin in 2025. These programs aim to equip students with essential day one competencies, producing competent and motivated graduates who seamlessly integrate into the veterinary profession. The ultimate objective is to cultivate graduates who are enthusiastic team players with the necessary professional attributes, skills, and knowledge required in the veterinary field. Core responsibilities will include:

  • Provide leadership and expert input into the design, delivery and curriculum of specific units of teaching relevant to animal husbandry, welfare and production and undertaking course coordinator duties.
  • Contribute to the Faculty’s research profile through publications in national journals, engage with industry and secure grant funding.
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with the animal sciences sector and facilitate placement opportunities for students.
  • Undertake relevant community and professional engagement that support and enhance the University and Faculty’s profile and priorities.

About you

The ideal candidate will hold a PhD in Animal Science, Veterinary Science or a related field, and has demonstrated expertise in animal husbandry, production, behaviour, or welfare.  You will bring network of industry and professional contacts within the animal or veterinary science sectors to enhance teaching and research endeavours. In addition, you will have:

  • Experience and expertise in teaching within an Animal Science, Veterinary Science or similar course.
  • Evidence of innovative and excellent teaching in a contemporary university environment.
  • Experience in the design, implementation and evaluation of innovative curricula and teaching resources that support and enhance the effectiveness of student learning.
  • A track record in research scholarship as evidenced by publication output in highly ranked journals, and research income generation.

At Professor level, you will possess a successful record of academic leadership including the ability to lead innovation and inspire excellence and drive high performance amongst colleagues.

This is a full-time, continuing (permanent) position located at our Lismore campus. Generous relocation support available. The level of appointment will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications, skills and experience.

The base salary for Academic Level D ranges from $154,080 - $169,474 per annum, plus 17% employer’s contribution to superannuation. The total remuneration package is up to $198,285.

The base salary for Academic Level E is $197,689 per annum, plus 17% employer’s contribution to superannuation. The total remuneration package is up to $231,296.
