Offering a base salary from $166,939 + 17% superannuation + clinical loading
About the opportunity
Formed in 1856, Sydney Medical School (SMS) is the oldest medical school in Australia, with a cohort of around 1200 medical students undertaking a four-year graduate-entry Doctor of Medicine program, in addition to postgraduate coursework students undertaking a wide range of master’s degree, graduate diploma and graduate certificate courses, and higher degree research students. SMS is one of seven academics schools the Faculty of Medicine and Health. The faculty is organized in three metropolitan precincts. SMS is comprised of six metropolitan clinical schools three rural clinical schools and a GP clinical school. where students undertake the majority of the program. This role will be based in Concord Clinical School of Sydney Medical School, and in the Faculty’s Central Sydney Precinct: Patyegarang. Concord Clinical School has the full clinical, teaching and research staff resources of the Concord Repatriation General Hospital and the ANZAC Research Institute of Sydney Local Health District.
We are seeking to appoint an Associate Professor of Neuroimmunology to lead a program of independent research and contribute to teaching and leadership of Concord Clinical School reporting to the Head of Clinical School. The successful applicant must already hold an appointment as a Specialist Neurologist in Sydney Local Health District, and have demonstrated success as lead Chief Investigator in competitive grant schemes including the NHMRC.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
make high level contributions to the academic community in research, education and or higher degree research supervision at the Concord Clinical School, Medical School and Faculty Central Sydney Precinct under the direction of the Head of Clinical School.
in your LHD role, perform fractional clinical duties in your area of Neuroimmunology reporting to your Clinical Head of Department.
Be a medical practitioner registered in NSW with AHPRA recognised specialist qualifications in Neurology with a current clinical position within the Sydney Local Health District (Concord Hospital).
have completed a PhD in the field of Neuroimmunology related diseases
demonstrate the pursuit of academic research of national and international significance in neuroimmunology with evidence of an outstanding track record including success in peer reviewed grant funding schemes as lead Chief Investigator and markers of esteem (e.g. awards), and with a developed network of relationships with academic, consumer / advocacy, industry and / or professional organisations, partners and stakeholders
have demonstrated experience in teaching and learning, including research student supervision, MD teaching in the field of neurology
have a demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the key strategic issues in the discipline and higher education sector.
