About the opportunity
We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Livestock Infectious Disease with the primary focus to contribute to a research project funded by a significant industry grant and involving a large research team with the aim of understanding the impact of Coxiella burnetii on livestock production systems. The project involves the application of diagnostics and farm systems modelling to investigate the pathogenesis and production impacts of coxiellosis in cattle and sheep. The role will be tailored to align with the skills, experience, and interests of the successful applicant. The position will afford the opportunity to develop skills in a range of areas including project management, experimental design, laboratory diagnostics, analysis and reporting, as well as epidemiological study design, implementation and modelling. Experience in sample collection in livestock species is desirable but not essential.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
undertake research supported by the larger research team in livestock infectious disease in line with key aspects of the project including study design, implementation, sample collection and processing; data analysis and interpretation; and reporting, assist with on farm sampling (which may require some travel)
support undergraduate and postgraduate students
publication of research papers in high impact or subject specific journals
support and demonstrate research excellence.

a PhD (or near completion) in veterinary or animal science or a related or relevant field

excellent communication (written and verbal), organisational and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
a strong track record of publishing their research
been vaccinated against Q fever (or is willing to be vaccinated prior to commencing work)
a health/fitness clearance
a current NSW driver’s license, C Class.
