The Faculty of Medicine and Health, the largest division of the university, is dedicated to attracting and developing the brightest minds in health education and research to make and shape the future of health. Sydney Dental School is ranked amongst the top dental schools globally and is one of the largest dental schools in Australia. It is housed within the Sydney Dental Hospital at Surry Hills and the Westmead Centre for Oral Health at Westmead Hospital with outreach across NSW.

We are seekin g to appoint a talented educator with a passion for, and demonstrated excellence in, pedagogical practice and design as Associate Professor in Endodontics (Education Focused Role). The position will play a significant role in leading or contributing to the academic endeavours within the Discipline of Endodontics at the School of Dentistry of Faculty of Medicine and Health. The position contributes to fostering a culture of excellence through their own expertise and through guiding academic staff and students towards success.

The role requires a high-caliber endodontic specialist who will have a conjoint appointment with Sydney Local Health District (SLHD) and will work to establish and lead DClinDent (Endodontics), a new full 3-year program commencing in 2023, followed by specialist registration in Endodontics. This program will support FMH Strategic Initiatives to provide future-focused accredited education, and innovative pathways to a career in health.

About you

The successful candidate will be a PhD qualified academic in a field relevant to endodontics, registrable or eligible for registration as a dentist and endodontic specialist with the Dental Board of Australia. You will possess a national or international reputation in Endodontics, with a supporting research profile including competitive researc h grants, publications and evidence of recognition within the broader research community. The successful candidate will have a distinguished record of academic teaching excellence, as evidenced through successful student outcomes, demonstrated impact on student learning, recognition through awards/prizes and innovation. You will have demonstrated experience in people leadership and an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the key strategic issues in the higher education sector, including demonstrated success in supervising and/or mentoring others towards success. The successful cand idate will have an understanding of and ability to lead, develop and support an academic endeavour from curriculum design to producing leading research, providing a student enabling environment.

The successful applicant must have a wide network of established relationships with key academic, industry and professional institutions, partners and stakeholders, that can be leveraged to enhance the standing of the school, faculty and University.

Term and remuneration

The successful candidate will be offered a 5-year fixed-term position on a full-time basis, with the possibility for renewal subject to assessment of performance. The appointment is subject to completion of a satisfactory probation period for new appointees.

Visa sponsorship and relocation assistance will also be provided if required.

The selected candidate will be offered an attractive remuneration package commensurate with the res ponsib ilities of the position and the candidate’s relevant experience and qualifications.
