About This Opportunity 

The successful candidate will teach into one or more of the undergraduate core law courses, which are mandated as ‘Prescribed Areas of Knowledge’ required for admission to legal practice (known as the ‘Priestley 11’), as well as into the other programs offered by the School. This will include the development, practice, evaluation and communication of improved pedagogies, learning processes, curricula, policies and learning materials.

You will engage in high-quality, original research in the field of law, with the potential to advance knowledge and academic debate, nationally and internationally, as well as law reform, policy development, and/or legal practice. Engaging in supervision, service, citizenship and engagement activities that support the School, Faculty, and/or University’s strategic direction will also be part of this position.

This is a full-time (100%), continuing position at Academic level A, B or C. The full-time equivalent base salary at Level A will be in the range $77,324.85 - $102,945.12 plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $90,470.08 - $120,445.79 annually.

The full-time equivalent base salary at Level B will be in the range $108,201.26 – $128,201.75, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $126,595.47 – $149,996.05 annually.

The full-time equivalent base salary at Level C will be in the range $132,201.83 – $152,202.33, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $154,676.15 – $178,076.72 annually.

As this role is covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases — at least once a year.

About You  

  • A legal qualification in law (LLB, JD or equivalent), with demonstrated relevant expert knowledge in an area or areas of law, as well as a doctoral qualification in a relevant field that has either been conferred or is under examination or is in the final stages of completion;

  • A demonstrated capability and evidence of engagement in learning and teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels, and the development of innovative course and program material for effective learning practices in the context of the discipline;

  • A demonstrated commitment to excellence at undergraduate and postgraduate levels as evidenced, for example, by teaching performance metrics and/or peer evaluation and/or awards;

  • A demonstrated record of high-quality research evidenced by national and international publications;

  • Evidence of a capacity to apply for competitive funding to support research;

  • A demonstrated capacity to effectively supervise Higher Degree by Research students;

  • Evidence of established, or the potential to establish, effective and growing relationships that can promote the School within the University, the national and international legal academy, and the wider community, including industry, government and professional bodies;

  • A record of engaging and supporting School, Faculty and University activities; and

  • High-level communication and interpersonal skills and evidence of the capacity to develop leadership skills.

Note that a successful applicant who has not yet completed their doctorate will be appointed at Level A, with the prospect of promotion to Level B upon conferral of the doctorate. The successful applicant at Level C will have an established record of achievement in teaching, research, and citizenship and service. They will be able to demonstrate sustained leadership, and leadership outcomes, in one or more of the academic domains, as well as possessing an established national, and emerging international, reputation in research in their discipline area.
