Your New Role

Riawunna Centre for Aboriginal Education provides a culturally welcoming space for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students delivering academic and cultural support to build independent, resilient and confident learners. Riawunna’s Murina Program is a pathway program which aims to support academic development, confidence and knowledge to ensure student success at the University.

As the Associate Lecturer or Lecturer – Riawunna Centre you will undertake curriculum development and teaching into the Murina Program, other courses and research. You will create deeper understanding and connection for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students to prepare them for further studies whilst also improving the knowledge of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people for other students at the university.  By providing leadership in the enhancement of the Murina Program and increasing the profile of the Program you will contribute to the development and maintenance of productive and effective links inside the University, locally and nationally with the discipline and the wider community. You will also support and participate in Riawunna social and cultural activities across the state and provide high-level support to the Riawunna team, Elders and Community participants in the Community Program.

What You’ll Need to Succeed

With high level interpersonal, teamwork and networking skills you will have the ability to effectively engage with a variety of internal and external stakeholders and the capacity to build and maintain effective and productive links locally, nationally and internationally. You will understand the strategic directions of the University and its priorities with the inclusion of Aboriginal knowledges, and you will contribute to the growth and future vision of the Murina program. You will bring to the role high level communication skills to create a supportive learning environment that encourages students to develop confidence and their capacity for independent learning. You will have the ability to develop, facilitate and deliver academic units with a focus on Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander knowledges, demonstrated relationships with the Tasmanian Aboriginal community and knowledge and awareness of the barriers this community is facing.

Remuneration

Appointment to this role will be at Academic Level A or B and will have a total remuneration package of up to $147,083 comprising base salary within the range of $78,499 to $125,712 plus 17% superannuation.
