The Opportunity

Join the UNSW School of Photovoltaic and Renewable Energy Engineering (SPREE) as an Associate Lecturer or Lecturer in an Education Focussed (EF) role focussed on course development and student learning. UNSW’s EF roles enable academics to specialise in education and devote their time to delivering high-quality teaching and pursuing initiatives to enhance the educational experience of our students. UNSW has so far appointed more than 300 academics to Education Focussed roles –a strategy designed to foster and reward educational excellence. Those who are appointed to this prestigious specialisation will be expected to successfully drive educational excellence within the university’s teaching and learning communities.

The role of Associate Lecturer/Lecturer reports to the Head of School, Professor Alistair Sproul, and has no direct reports.

Job Details

  • Salary
    • Associate Lecturer – Level A, $98,342 to $105,185 per annum + 17% superannuation
    • Lecturer - Level B, $110,459 to $130,215 per annum + 17% superannuation
  • Full time
  • Fixed-term – 12 months
  • Location: Kensington – Sydney, Australia
  • Due to the current travel restrictions into Australia, we will be giving preference to applications from candidates currently residing in Australia and/or having Australian working rights.

UNSW School of Photovoltaic and Renewable Energy Engineering (SPREE) is one of the eight schools within the Faculty of Engineering at UNSW. SPREE grew out of the Australian Research Council Photovoltaics Centre of Excellence in response to the growing renewable energy industry. Building on world-leading research, including holding the record for the most efficient silicon solar cell for over two decades, the school attracts leading international researchers in photovoltaic and renewable energy.

Skills & Experience

Associate Lecturer (Level A)

  • A PhD in renewable energy engineering or equivalent expertise in Renewable Energy systems gained through any combination of teaching or research experience, professional and/or technical achievements, and experience outside tertiary education.
  • Demonstrated experience in the delivery of tertiary courses in Renewable Energy systems is highly desirable.
  • Actively stays up to date with discipline knowledge and developments
  • Demonstrated experience in and passion for teaching and learning design, development and/or delivery at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level
  • Knowledge of educational technologies and online delivery methods
  • A strong commitment to work-integrated learning (desirable)
  • Experience engaging students and fostering independent learning through meaningful assessment and helpful feedback.
  • Evidence of and/or preparedness to undertake professional development of teaching practice
  • Evidence of highly developed interpersonal skills
  • Evidence of ability to support and inspire students from diverse backgrounds and support student equity diversity and inclusion initiatives.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training

Lecturer (Level B)

  • A PhD in renewable energy engineering or equivalent expertise in Renewable Energy systems gained through any combination of teaching or research experience, professional and/or technical achievements, and experience outside tertiary education.
  • Demonstrated experience in delivery of tertiary courses in Renewable Energy systems.
  • Actively stays up to date with discipline knowledge and professional development
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching and learning design, development and delivery at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
  • Experience using and/or designing with educational technologies and online delivery methods
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness and passion for educational excellence (e.g. relevant discipline-based curriculum design and development at a variety of levels and scales)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of industry or experience of work-integrated learning (desirable)
  • Evidence of highly developed interpersonal and organisational skills
  • Evidence of ability to support and inspire students from diverse backgrounds and support student equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training
