The position

As an Associate Lecturer in Allied Health, you will provide support to students on their clinical placements as part of their 4th year studies in their health studies.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Develop and deliver inter-disciplinary teaching to small groups of students and one on one teaching
  • Supervise, mentor and support students on placement
  •  Build and maintain strong partnerships with local healthcare providers to negotiate placements for our students
  • Support students to engage in professional experiences in the local community including school visits, community events etc.

In this part-time position you will work the 0.4FTE hours across Wednesdays, Thursdays and/or Fridays.

This position will provide you with the opportunity to develop your research skills.

About the Department of Rural Health

The University of Newcastle’s Department of Rural Health (UONDRH) delivers a number of programs aimed at improving the health and wellbeing of regional, rural, and Indigenous communities within the New England, Northwest Slopes and Plains, Mid North Coast and areas of the Hunter Valley and Manning Rivers regions.

Through a variety of programs, the UONDRH has made it possible for undergraduate and postgraduate students studying medicine, nursing, and allied health disciplines at the University of Newcastle & through the Joint Medical Program (JMP) to complete a large part of their education and training in a rural setting at one of six locations – Tamworth, Armidale, Coffs Harbour, Port Macquarie, Taree, or Moree.

How you will inspire us

You will be interested in student teaching, supporting student learning and have an interest in research.

You will have:

  • Completed tertiary studies in Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Nutrition and Dietetics, Exercise Physiotherapy or Social Work
  • Experience with supervising and teaching students in an academic or professional setting
  • A strong desire to teach students and support them throughout their placements
  • A solid network of professionals in the local health district
  • Hold or be eligible for and willing to obtain relevant professional registration or accreditation
  • An interest in starting to develop your research skills
