About the opportunity

The Discipline of Strategy, Innovation and Entrepreneurship in the University of Sydney Business School is seeking to appoint an Associate Lecturer (Education Focused) in Entrepreneurship.  This role will contribute to the design, delivery and evaluation of outstanding educational experiences at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.

The Discipline of Strategy, Innovation and Entrepreneurship is a diverse and inclusive group that is connected and engaged. Driven by ambitious standards of excellence, we produce impactful research and practical, actionable knowledge for business, government and society. In the area of Entrepreneurship we aspire to shape the evolution of entrepreneurial ecosystems, improve commercialisation outcomes for inventors and entrepreneurs both inside and outside academia and champion social and Indigenous entrepreneurship to co-create culturally informed solutions to community identified challenges.

The Discipline of SIE is also home to GENESIS – a University wide start-up incubator and competition open to all staff, alumni and students.  The GENESIS Co-Ordinator manages two cohorts of start-ups for the GENESIS program each year.  This involved facilitating participation, managing relationships and co-ordinating the involvement of the GENESIS mentors who are drawn from the wider entrepreneurship community and alumni of the University.

The education-focused role is a specialized category of academic engagement reserved for talented educators with a passion for, and demonstrated excellence in, pedagogical practice and design. An Associate Lecturer (Education-focused) is expected to make significant contributions to developing teaching and learning practice, design and evaluation within their School. The successful candidate will dedicate the majority (70% - or by mutual agreement 80%) of their academic workload allocation to education and educational development.

This role is required to support curriculum delivery in inter-disciplinary and cross-faculty programs in entrepreneurship and innovation.  You will contribute to the educational and administrative duties of the Discipline and School and support the further development of a positive workplace culture, aligned to the strategic direction of the Business School and University.  The role also involves the co-ordination and delivery of the GENESIS program.  You will be expected to develop a strong profile with external stakeholders, particularly in the wider entrepreneurial eco-system.

About you

You are a dedicated educator with a passion for innovation and entrepreneurship.  While you have experience in learning and teaching in the tertiary education environment, your interest in developing entrepreneurship extends beyond theory to practice, and you are active and well networked within the entrepreneurial community.  The University values courage and creativity; openness and engagement; inclusion and diversity; and respect and integrity. As such, we see the importance of recruiting scholars aligned to these values. This role is the right fit for you if you have;

  • a proven commitment, passion and ability for engaging in scholarly activities to inform innovative pedagogical practice, particularly in relation to innovation and entrepreneurship
  • a strong and active network of relationships with the wider entrepreneurial eco-system, and a commitment to fostering relationships with external partners, including alumni relations
  • experience in developing external engagement platforms.

To be considered for this position, please provide a CV and a cover letter which demonstrates your suitability and enthusiasm for this role, while also providing evidence of how your experience and scholarship aligns with the role described above.
