Western Sydney University has established a sector-leading program to strengthen career pathways for casual academic staff by creating the equivalent of 150 full time positions by 1 March 2025. The WSU decasualisation program will play a significant role in reducing the level of insecure work in the Australian higher education sector.

With this in mind, the University is looking to recruit candidates it can invest in and develop over the long term, including training over the confirmation period to support candidates to retain stable, ongoing employment. On that basis, the University is looking for candidates who have full time working rights until at least 1 March 2025, in place at the time of application.

Successful candidates will undertake teaching, while also having the opportunity to develop a research portfolio and contribute to the University through governance activities at the School and/or University level.

Eligibility

Successful candidates will be subject to a two-year confirmation period and must provide evidence at the time of application that they:

• have been engaged as a casual academic for at least 2 teaching sessions within the previous 2 years at an Australian Higher Education institution; and
• hold or have submitted all requirements for a PhD or other relevant Level 10 AQF qualification; and
• have not previously held an ongoing position with an Australian Higher Education provider in the previous 3 years; and
• are an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident of Australia or have full time working rights until at least 1 March 2025, in place at the time of application.

Candidates must submit evidence of the above requirements , along with any evidence they have of successful teaching results, such as Student Feedback on Teaching survey outcomes.

School of Engineering Design and Built Environment

The School of Engineering, Design and Built Environment is located in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Cluster, together with the School of Computer, Data and Mathematical Sciences, the School of Science, the MARCS Institute and the Hawkesbury Institute for the Environment.

The School operates from three of the eleven WSU campuses: Penrith campus, Parramatta South campus and Parramatta City campus. The School offers both undergraduate and postgraduate programs, including research programs that combine advanced academic knowledge with real-life training to suit a range of career needs and interests in the following disciplines: Architecture, Construction Management, Engineering and Industrial Design.

The School conducts world leading research in a number of its disciplinary areas and has several research concentrations including the Centre for Infrastructure Engineering and the Centre for Smart Modern Construction.

The Role

Construction Management at WSU is one of the largest programs of its type in Australia with over 1600 undergraduate and 200 postgraduate students enrolled. Both undergraduate and postgraduate programs continually achieve the highest national student satisfaction and many of our graduates are working for the leading construction companies in Sydney, Australia and internationally.

The Associate Lecturer will be involved in a range of academic activities with a focus on Quantity Surveying. A substantial part of the role involves teaching, including the development, design, and delivery of innovative and engaging teaching materials. You will also be allocated time to develop your research portfolio and have the opportunity to be mentored in your research by Senior academic staff within the University. In addition, you will be expected to participate in administrative and governance related activities.

To be successful in the role, you will need to demonstrate excellence in teaching and a high level of energy and commitment to further developing a research profile that is fresh and relevant to the particular discipline.

This is a full-time, ongoing appointment based at Westerns Parramatta South Campus.

Remuneration Package: Academic Level A $106,765 to $128,989 p.a. (comprising Salary of $90,218 to $108,997 p.a., plus Superannuation and Leave Loading).
