About the opportunity

The Faculty of Health Sciences is the largest health sciences faculty in Australia, consisting of seven disciplines, five research themes (plus 3 cross-cutting themes), and four research centres. The School of Health Sciences is known for world-leading health sciences education and research. Our research ranks 'well above world-class (Excellence in Research for Australia level 5) and we rank 33rd in the world for health (T.H.E. World University Rankings 2015/16).

The Sydney School of Health Sciences is seeking three education-focused academics (at Associate Lecturer & Lecturer level) who are passionate about improving health outcomes and health equity in the local, national and global communities through Exercise Science. Expertise in motor control/motor learning or body composition/nutrition is of high priority.

The Associate Lecturer (education-focused) is expected to assist in teaching and learning practice, design and evaluation within their Academic School. A Lecturer (education-focused) is expected to make a significant contribution to teaching and learning practice, design and evaluation within their Academic School. The incumbents will be committed to teaching and be a team player ready to contribute across the broad field of academic activities. The positions offer opportunities to develop and contribute to research and teaching in Exercise and Sport Science as part of a multi-disciplinary team at the Faculty of Medicine and Health.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Contributes to outstanding educational design, delivery, evaluation and outcomes

  • undertake independent teaching in discipline, area of expertise or related area

  • evaluate teaching and learning - both at a program level and in relation to own practice – and applies learnings to improve practice and outcomes

  • contributes to the education and administrative activities of the School

  • contributes to a positive workplace culture within the School

  • contributes to the strategic direction of the University

  • engages beyond the University (clinical and or industry partners)

  • work as an effective team member and, as required, coordinate units of study.

About you

  • A relevant graduate-level qualification or equivalent

  • for the Lecturer (Education Focused) a PhD in an academic field relevant to the discipline

  • experience in teaching and learning in a tertiary environment, as evidenced by student coaching and skills development

  • relevant experience and expertise in motor control/motor learning, nutrition/body composition, biomechanics or strength and conditioning

  • demonstrated success in designing implementing and evaluating teaching and learning initiatives with a clinical focus

  • a network of relationships with key academic, clinical and professional institutions, partners and stakeholders

  • experience in supervising or mentoring others and/or coordinating team activities.

Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the position.
