We are reducing the overall use of academic casual employment and providing meaningful pathways for casual academic staff to ongoing academic employment through our casual consolidation project.

To be eligible, you must (a) Have casual experience totalling at least two (2) teaching sessions at La Trobe University in the previous two (2) years; (b) Have not held a continuing position in a university in the previous three (3) years.

La Trobe University's Department of Languages and Cultures is seeking an exceptional individual to fill a vital role within our dynamic team: an Associate Lecturer in Chinese. This part-time (0.4 FTE) continuing position offers an outstanding opportunity to contribute to and shape our Chinese studies curriculum at our Melbourne (Bundoora) campus. The position:

As an Associate Lecturer in Chinese, you will:

  • Deliver high-quality, engaging learning experiences in Chinese language and culture through lectures, tutorials, workshops, and online sessions.
  • Contribute to curriculum design and development, ensuring a rich and dynamic learning environment for students.
  • Provide insightful, constructive feedback to students, supporting their academic growth and development.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on innovative teaching strategies and curriculum improvements, aiming to enhance student experience and outcomes.

The candidate:

  • A PhD (completed or near completion) in a relevant discipline, showcasing deep knowledge and passion for Chinese language and culture.
  • Proven excellence in teaching, with a track record of positively impacting student learning and engagement.
  • Strong commitment to the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, with an ability to innovate and adapt teaching methods to suit diverse learning needs.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a demonstrated ability to work effectively within a diverse academic community.
