The role is responsible for leading, managing and evolving the IDS risk, governance and ways of working frameworks, models and supporting policies, processes and standards.
The role plays a critical leadership role in establishing, supporting and continuously improving the IDS ways of working with a particular focus on how work is governed, prioritised and flows through IDS.
The role supervises a team of professional staff, provides strong people leadership and proactively manages overall staff performance.

Key Position Responsibilities

The Associate Director, IDS Risk, Governance and Ways of Working is accountable for:

Leadership 

  • Leading team members, including organising and managing all resources to ensure the most effective outcomes are achieved within the team. 

  • Mentoring and developing the management and leadership capacity of all direct reports and proactively fostering the development of all staff.  Ensuring that appropriate reporting and measures are established to monitor, review and continuously improve the performance of the team. 

  • Supporting the successful delivery of IDS Capital Infrastructure Program (CIP) projects that require resources and input from the team. 

  • Periodically participating in knowledge building activities and events to be aware of latest/best practices related to the role and to keep skills and knowledge up to date.  Ensuring the team are appropriately skilled and experienced to provide technical expertise to customers. the team are appropriately skilled and experienced to provide technical expertise to customers.  

Customer Engagement & Success 

  • Collaborating and supporting the relevant teams and stakeholders to develop and deliver their respective customer engagement and success models. 

  • Working closely with the relevant teams and stakeholders to ensure team priorities are aligned with the strategic and operational objectives of relevant IDS customers.  

Risk, Governance & Ways of Working 

  • Leading the development, implementation and management of the governance model for IDS related activities and projects to support the ongoing review and prioritisation of IDS related activities and to ensure all of IDS have a clear understanding of IDS related priorities at any point in time. 

  • Leading the development, implementation and management of an IT risk management framework, including an appropriate IT risk management governance model. 

  • Leading the development, implementation and management of the digital data governance management framework and supporting governance model. 

  • Leading the development, implementation and management of an IDS supplier and contract management framework, including an appropriate IDS supplier and contract management governance model.  This will include a central support function for IDS supplier and contract management, renewals and new procurement opportunities.  

  • Leading the development, implementation and continuous improvement of an agile based ways of working for IDS.  

  • In collaboration with all IDS Associate Directors, providing leadership, direction and input into a consistent planning and prioritisation process for all of IDS that aligns with the University strategic objectives. 

  • Identifying, managing and mitigating risks related to the activities being undertaken by the role in line with IDS and Flinders University policies and procedures. 

  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant IDS and Flinders University policies and procedures.  

Financial Management 

  • Managing the team’s financial performance in consultation with the Chief Information Officer (CIO), ensuring that all aspects of the budget are managed effectively and in accordance with University policies. 

Other Responsibilities 

  • Any other responsibilities in line with the level of the role as assigned by the Supervisor and/or the University. 

Key Position Capabilities

  • A degree in business, management, computer science, business technology or other relevant degree qualification. 

  • Advanced strategic thinking, planning and analytical skills and actively contributes to achieve outcomes and meet the University's strategic goals. 

  • High level skills in leading a team to its full potential, including advanced interpersonal and relationship management skills and the ability to manage staff performance. 

  • Extensive experience in building and managing customer relationships in a strategic and long-term context. 

  • Extensive experience in agile ways of working including exposure to scaled agile methodologies and/or collaborating and delivering through a matrix structure. 

  • High level self-improvement and growth mindset/approach to the role and fosters it amongst the wider team. 

  • Advanced interpersonal influence and demonstrated ability to negotiate and communicate effectively with staff and customers across a diverse organisation particularly during the design, management and implementation of customer solutions. 

  • Extensive experience in successfully delivering significant projects with customer focussed outcomes and/or benefits. 

  • Extensive experience in building, developing, and maturing organisational/technology capabilities in a matrix model context. 

  • Higher education experience advantageous.
