This role is responsible for the identification, management and governance of education related priorities for IDS (including education related projects).
The role works closely with the education community through the establishment of a customer engagement and success model that is focused on understanding and aligning IDS with the strategic and operational objectives of this community.
The role works closely with the IDS leadership team and is active in leading, engaging and planning IDS priorities to ensure education related priorities are developed, delivered, supported, maintained in a sustainable and scalable manner to meet the strategic needs of the university.
The role supervises a team of professional staff, provides strong people leadership and proactively manages overall staff performance.

Key Position Responsibilities

The Associate Director, IDS Education Engagement & Success is accountable for:

Leadership 

  • Taking full responsibility for leading the IDS Education Engagement & Success team, including organising and managing all resources to ensure the most effective outcomes are achieved within the team.

  • Being the IDS Project Sponsor and Program Lead for the successful delivery of IDS Capital Investment Program (CIP) projects that have benefits and/or outcomes for the education community at Flinders.  This will include directly managing all IDS Project Managers that are leading projects primarily related to education.

  • Mentoring and developing the management and leadership capacity of all direct reports and proactively fostering the development of all staff.  Ensuring that appropriate reporting and measures are established to monitor, review and continuously improve the performance of the team.

  • Periodically participating in knowledge building activities and events to be aware of latest/best practices related to the role and to keep skills and knowledge up to date.

Customer Engagement & Success 

  • Developing and implementing the education related customer engagement and success model through ongoing consultation with key education customers.  Delivering the customer engagement and success model in collaboration and coordination with the Research and Portfolios customer engagement and success models to ensure consistency, cohesiveness and effectiveness across the three models and teams.

  • Consistently and actively engaging key education community customers and stakeholders to develop a deep understanding of their strategies, plans and needs, and translating that understanding back into IDS for prioritisation of digital solutions that align with and support the strategic objectives.

Risk, Governance & Ways of Working 

  • Developing and managing a governance model for IDS education related activities and projects in collaboration with the relevant stakeholders, to support the ongoing review and prioritisation of IDS education related activities (including education related projects) and to ensure all of IDS have a clear understanding of IDS education related priorities at any point in time.

  • In collaboration with all IDS Associate Directors, providing leadership, direction and input into a consistent planning and prioritisation process for all of IDS that aligns with the University strategic objectives.

  • Managing any relevant strategic vendor relationships in accordance with University procurement policies.

  • Leading the establishment and continuous improvement of an agile based way of working to manage, refine, and prioritise the activity backlog based on relevant customer and IDS priorities.

  • Identifying, managing and mitigating risks related to the activities being undertaken by the role in line with IDS and Flinders University policies and procedures.

  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant IDS and Flinders University policies and procedures.

Financial Management 

  • Managing the team’s financial performance in consultation with the Chief Information Officer (CIO), ensuring that all aspects of the budget are managed effectively and in accordance with University policies.

Other Responsibilities 

  • Any other responsibilities in line with the level of the role as assigned by the Supervisor and/or the University.

Key Position Capabilities

  • A degree in business, management, computer science, business technology or other relevant degree qualification.

  • Advanced strategic thinking, planning and analytical skills and actively contributes to achieve outcomes and meet the University’s strategic goals.

  • High level skills in leading a team to its full potential, including advanced interpersonal and relationship management skills and the ability to manage staff performance, including unsatisfactory performance.

  • Extensive experience in building and managing customer relationships in a strategic and long-term context.

  • Extensive experience in agile ways of working including exposure to scaled agile methodologies and/or collaborating and delivering through a matrix structure.

  • High level self-improvement and growth mindset/approach to the role and fosters it amongst the wider team.

  • Advanced interpersonal influence and demonstrated ability to negotiate and communicate effectively with staff and customers across a diverse organisation particularly during the design, management and implementation of customer solutions.

  • Extensive experience in successfully delivering significant projects with customer focussed outcomes and/or benefits.

  • Extensive experience in building, developing, and maturing organisational/technology capabilities in a matrix model context

  • Higher education experience advantageous.
