Overview
Edith Cowan University (ECU) is a large, multi-campus institution serving communities nationally and internationally. The University currently has two metropolitan campuses at Mount Lawley and Joondalup, and also serves Western Australia’s South West Region from a campus at Bunbury, 200km south of Perth. In 2025, ECU will commence teaching at their new state-of-the-art City Campus. The ECU School of Science offers a range of courses including biology, bioinformatics, cyber security, counter terrorism security, physics, information technology, environmental science and management, chemistry, mathematics, data science, sustainability, and more and is looking to appoint an ongoing Associate Professor in a Science or Mathematics discipline who will also lead the Science and Mathematics Disciplines as Associate Dean for an initial term of three years.
The Role
The Associate Dean (Science and Mathematics) is a member of the School’s executive team managing a discipline cluster within the School and the associated staff. This role reports to the Executive Dean and has responsibility for the delivery of high-quality postgraduate programs as well as overseeing the development and delivery of courses related to Science and Mathematics.
The Science and Mathematics discipline cluster includes Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Horticulture, Environmental Science, Marine and Freshwater Science and Ecology. Ideally, the Associate Dean will have a strong background in one of these fields, or in a closely related discipline.
Fostering a collaborative, professional and inclusive School culture, this role will work closely with the School’s leadership team to focus on enhancing the School’s Science and Mathematics disciplines.

The Person
The ideal candidate will be an Associate Professor (Level D) or Professor (Level E) with expertise in a relevant area such as Educational Leadership or leadership in a relevant Science or Mathematics area/discipline who has a demonstrated record of outstanding academic leadership. In addition, the ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate:
- A strong background in building strategic relationships
- A creative approach, demonstrating innovation and innovative practice
- Sound risk management and strategic thinking.

Benefits & Remuneration
This full-time, ongoing position attracts a remuneration of $149,267 to $164, 111 pa (Associate Professor - Level D) or $191,335 (Professor – Level E). The fixed-term Associate Dean appointment (initial term of three years) will attract additional remuneration equivalent to 10% of a Level E. In addition, ECU pays 17% University superannuation contribution.
