About the opportunity

The Faculty of Medicine and Health is the largest faculty in the University. This integrated faculty brings opportunity for innovation, progressive thinking and challenging the status quo by establishing productive research units that cross traditional academic school and discipline boundaries. We operate across four large health precincts (three metropolitan and one regional/rural) where University facilities are co-located with hospitals and medical research institutes.

We are seeking to appoint an esteemed leader with a reputation for outstanding impact, achievement and influence at the level of Professor as the Associate Dean Research. The position of Associate Dean Research is a member of the Faculty leadership team and has the responsibility for the Research portfolio and for achieving its strategic and operational objectives. This position contributes to planning, setting and communicating the academic and operational vision, strategies and goals of the faculty with particular reference to the Research portfolio.

Collaborating and building positive working relationships with other Associate Deans who hold the Research portfolio across the University and also with the Associate Deans within the Faculty of Medicine and Health. The position contributes to the ongoing strategic development of University wide initiatives for the Research portfolio and is responsible for communication and implementation of these initiatives within the Faculty of Medicine and Health. The position engages with external partner organizations and Industry ad advise the Executive Dean, School/Institute Directors on university and external research initiatives.

The Associate Dean demonstrates and enables the values of the University in relation to its people and culture.

About you (skills, capabilities and experience)

To be successful, you will bring to the role a recognised research profile relevant to the faculty, with PhD or equivalent qualifications. This will include a strong and influential record of published works of impact, a record of successful grant applications and evidence of a significant contribution to fostering research and development activities within an academic environment. You will have strong leadership skills and experience in initiating, leading and managing academic teams and projects. As a senior leader you will possess high level communication, interpersonal and advocacy skills as well have a network of established relationships with key academic, industry and professional institutions.

Term and remuneration

The successful candidate will be offered a 5-year fixed term position with an option for another 5 years on a full-time basis, subject to completion of a satisfactory probation period for new appointees. There is opportunity for further appointments subject to performance. The successful candidate will be offered an attractive remuneration package commensurate with the responsibilities of the position and the candidate’s relevant experience and qualifications.
