About the role

The Associate Dean (Education and Innovation) is an academic leadership role with overall strategic and operational responsibilities of the faculty’s education activities, which currently includes an array of undergraduate programs in UNSW Medicine & Health. This currently includes undergraduate programs in Medicine, Vision Science and Optometry, International Public Health and allied health disciplines, as well as postgraduate programs in Public Health, Health Leadership and Management, Global Health, Infectious Diseases Intelligence, Health Data Science, Women’s Health Medicine, Reproductive Medicine, Forensic Mental Health, Optometry, Myopia Management, Ocular Therapeutics and Orientation & Mobility.

The role will work with the Director of Short Courses on postgraduate short course offerings. The role is responsible for the provision of creative leadership in the development and implementation of innovative pedagogies and strategies in alignment with the Faculty’s Health 25 Strategy, as well as effective strategic management of teaching and learning and quality assurance in the Faculty’s Education portfolio. The Associate Dean (Education & Innovation) will collaborate with other senior members of the faculty and across UNSW Sydney, to ensure excellence of the faculty’s undergraduate and postgraduate coursework programs.

About you

  • PhD or equivalent level of qualification
  • Excellent track record of innovation in Education, with proven capacity for Education leadership and evidence of experience relevant to the responsibilities outlined above.
  • Proven record of management experience and effective leadership, mentoring and team building capabilities within a higher education environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to represent the Faculty to liaise with external stakeholders relevant to clinical education, including Local Health Districts.
  • Excellent oral/written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lead developments and successfully implement and evaluate education innovation strategies.
  • Evidence of professional development of teaching practice in self and others with the ability to advance and lead an inclusive culture of excellence in learning and teaching.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
