About the Role
This is a fantastic opportunity to join the Grimwade Centre for Cultural Materials Conservation as a teaching specialist, playing a crucial role in delivering high-quality teaching within the Faculty of Arts. We invite applications from specialists in the areas of conservation of books and paper with experience in libraries and archives, or the conservation of textiles, with experience in organic materials.
As an Assistant Lecturer in Cultural Materials Conservation, you will play a pivotal role in delivering lectures and instructing lab-based classes focused on conservation science. Working closely with colleagues, and supported by the Faculty, this position offers an exceptional opportunity to impart knowledge and contribute to the excellence of this renowned research center.
You will demonstrate industry expertise and the capacity to support postgraduate teaching programs within your area of specialisation. Beyond teaching and learning, you will actively engage in scholarly activities, administration, and service within the research center, with support from the School, Faculty, and University to achieve your professional goals.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Coordination of specified subjects
- Preparation and delivery of lectures, tutorials, seminars, practicals and workshops
- Development and review of subject material
- Technology-based teaching, assessment programs and learning resources
- Consultation with students in relation to subject content, activities and requirements
- Contribute to the development of the Grimwade Centres object-based and industry facing teaching programs
- Research Higher Degree supervision
Who We Are Looking For
We are seeking a committed and engaging educator with experience of teaching at tertiary level, with a commitment to inclusivity in student learning, and the ability to work collaboratively with students.
You will possess extensive organisational skills as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills including a demonstrated ability to work with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.

You will also have:
- A PhD in a relevant discipline and/or equivalent professional experience
- Record of teaching experience in a tertiary or professional environment across a range of delivery modes
- Evidence of high-level organisational skills, including extensive experience in dealing effectively and efficiently with administrative tasks relevant to the position
- Ability to create a highly inclusive student learning environment
- Proven ability to work positively and cooperatively with students and industry partners in a range of contexts
- Understand policies and procedures relevant to teaching and student support and welfare

Your New Team – The School of Historical and Philosophical Studies (SHAPS)
The School of Historical and Philosophical Studies (SHAPS) is a part of the Faculty of Arts and comprises of History, Philosophy, History and Philosophy of Science, Classics and Archaeology, The Grimwade Centre for Cultural Materials Conservation and The Program in Jewish Culture & Society. SHAPS offers a wide range of classes in these disciplines and has an Honours, Masters by Coursework and postgraduate student cohort. This position resides in the Grimwade Centre for Cultural Materials Conservation and report to the Discipline Chair.
