Curtin University has a global presence where we aim to transform lives and communities through education and research. The Financial and Commercial Services team support the University in all finance related matters, enabling it to achieve its teaching and research outcomes.

Reporting to the Manager, Research Finance, the Assistant Accountant is responsible for providing support to deliver meaningful financial reporting for researchers, Research Centres & Institutes, Schools, Faculties, and the Research Office at Curtin University.

Key duties and responsibilities include:

  • Prepare and review financial acquittals and related reports in line with requirements of funding bodies, Internal Research Accounting, Financial Management Principals and Curtin University’s accounting manual
  • Examining financial reports with high attention to accuracy and detail
  • Interacting and working collaboratively with Principal Investigators and the Manager, Research Finance
  • Supporting researchers with the financial management of their projects to ensure grant funds are used in an effective and efficient manner
  • Providing accurate and timely month-end close through preparing journals to align with external reporting requirements and Australian Accounting Standards (ASSB).
Key Requirements:
  • Completion of a relevant degree and relevant accounting experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training
  • Actively working towards full membership of an internationally recognised accounting body e.g. ICAA or CPA (Highly Desirable)
  • Relevant experience in an aligned commercial organization or higher education (Highly Desirable)
  • Exceptional communication skills to interact with internal and external stakeholders
  • High attention to detail skills and the ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage competing priorities
  • Strong IT skills and the ability to learn and navigate a range of systems

As this is a continuing (permanent) role, you will require permanent work rights in Australia to be considered.
