The University of Adelaide experimental particle physics group has an opening for a postdoctoral research associate to work on the ATLAS experiment. The group currently participates in novel searches for Supersymmetry and measurements of the Higgs boson, and is involved in upgrade work on the Inner Tracker (ITK) and Fast TracKer (FTK) projects. This successful applicant for this position would be expected to strengthen the groups involvement in either/both ITK and FTK and pursue physics analysis work in tandem.

The Faculty of Sciences is one of five faculties at the University of Adelaide. The School of Physical Sciences is one of four Schools in the Faculty of Sciences. Located at the University's North Terrace campus, the School brings together the internationally recognised contemporary disciplines of chemistry; earth science; and physics, delivering undergraduate and postgraduate education, training and research with both national relevance and global outreach and networks in the public and private sectors.
The experimental particle physics group at The University of Adelaide has involvement in collider particle physics experiments (ATLAS, Belle II), astrophysics (Auger, HESS, CTA), neutrino physics (Ice Cube) and gravitational waves (LIGO), along with direct dark matter searches (SABRE).
The group is looking for an outstanding applicant who has obtained, or is about to obtain, a PhD in Experimental Particle Physics or a closely related field. The candidate will be expected to play a leading role in the group's activities in data analysis and to contribute to the operation and upgrade of the ATLAS detector. Candidates should have experience in data analysis at large-scale particle physics experiments and an interest in detector development and hardware projects.
Salary: (Level A) $85,307 to $91,425 per annum.
Superannuation: An employer contribution of 9.5% applies.
Term of position: This fixed-term contract is available immediately for a period of two years (with the possibility of extension).
To be successful you should have:
- PhD or equivalent degree (or thesis submitted) in particle physics or a closely related field
- A commitment to research excellence in experimental particle physics including data analysis and upgrade/operations of particle detectors
- Demonstrated publication track record in leading scientific journals and conference talks
- Advanced analytical and computational skills, including demonstrated ability to apply these to data analysis
- Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research in addition to working effectively as a member of a research team
