About the opportunity

The Application Middleware Specialist role provides management and technical expertise for application middleware components and the associated environments. The role provides support in analysis of any reported system defects, remediation of security vulnerabilities, planning configuration and implementation activities. The analysis will include identification and resolution of reported incidents and configurations of the relevant systems, ensuring operational effectiveness and excellence of the relevant applications.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • develop professional working relationships with relevant stakeholders, providing support, building support, building trust, and encouraging positive University perceptions of ICT
  • liaise and coordinate with ICT staff, vendors, and other stakeholders where appropriate in the execution of releases at the application middleware level
  • administration and maintenance of middleware of ICT Applications, focusing on but not limited to the following main systems. Education Systems, Research Management Systems, Financial Systems, Human Resource Systems, Records Management, Vet Science Management Systems, Web Services, Incident and Change Management
  • remediation of security vulnerabilities
  • work with ICT teams to provide proactive monitoring and fine tuning of application performance, integrity, and availability
  • excellent knowledge of application lifecycle/ support
  • work with ICT department and University stakeholders to design and implement the Middleware Management process and provide documentation.

About you

  • postgraduate qualifications - In a relevant field or an equivalent combination of relevant training and experience
  • demonstrated experience in effective and successful stakeholder management in complex multi-layered environment
  • demonstrated experience utilising high level analytical skills to critically evaluate the information and data gathered from multiple sources, reconcile conflicts, decompose high level information into more detail and the ability to abstract from low level information to a more general understanding
  • extensive experience with Middleware Management of application within a tertiary education environment
  • extensive experience in remediating cyber security vulnerabilities
  • ability to work on multiple projects and activities according to agreed schedules, timelines, and deliverables with minimal supervision and to prepare progress reports for management, project managers and clients
  • demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills in the management of applications middleware.
