About the Role

Join our dynamic Research Services team, dedicated to supporting and enhancing research activities University wide. As the Animal Welfare Officer, your responsibilities extend to fostering collaborations within the University and beyond and may require travel across multiple campuses for meetings and inspections.

Your pivotal role revolves around ensuring the ethical treatment of animals in research and teaching, aligning with national regulations and standards. You'll also provide expert guidance and training in cutting-edge medical and surgical techniques, alongside meticulous health monitoring. Collaborating closely with the Animal Ethics Committee, you'll lead efforts to maintain the highest standards of animal care and offer professional veterinary counsel to researchers and students. Furthermore, you'll play a key part in assisting researchers with Animal Research Authority applications and contribute to the assessment of documents submitted to the monthly committee meeting.

To excel in this role, you will have a degree in Veterinary Science and eligibility for registration as a veterinarian surgeon in NSW. You will also have demonstrated postgraduate experience in clinical practice with experience overseeing the welfare of a range of animal species used in research and/or teaching.

This is a part-time (0.6FTE) 21 hours per week, ongoing position located at Western's Werrington South Campus.
