About MERF

QUT's Medical Engineering Research Facility (MERF) at The Prince Charles Hospital provides a comprehensive suite of facilities with unique capabilities to support researchers in taking novel concepts from basic research to clinical implementation. Facilities include operating theatres, cell culture laboratories, and materials testing laboratories. The Facility also provides capability for skills training for surgeons and allied health workers such as general practitioners, anaesthetists and nurses, resulting in better quality of care for Queensland patients and fewer complications.

About the Position

We are looking for casual Animal Technician(s) to support activities at the UQ Pinjarra Hills Farm and/or MERF. Assistance is required on most weekends and during some weekdays, depending on workload and as negotiated with the candidates. This position would most likely suit people living locally in the Pinjarra Hills area.

What you need to succeed

  • Education, training and/or experience equivalent to a trades certificate, or completion of year 12 with relevant work experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in the care and husbandry of farm and/or research animals.
  • Commitment to the ethical treatment of animals.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimum supervision and to work effectively as a team member to complete work tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow instructions, work in a safe manner in association with provided instruction and maintain records with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to meet physical requirements of the position (i.e., lift/move/carry weights of up to 12kg on a regular basis, and up to 25-30kg occasionally).
  • Remuneration and Benefits

    The classification for this position is Higher Education Worker Level 3 (HEW3) which has a casual hourly rate range of $40.92 to $45.52 per hour (inclusive of hourly rate plus casual loading of 25%).

    QUT will also pay employer superannuation contributions at the current Superannuation Guarantee (SG) rate.

    This appointment will be offered on a casual basis for 6 months.
