  • Base salary range: $92,679 – $102,830 p.a. (pro rata) plus superannuation

About The Marshall Centre

The Marshall Centre was founded in 2007 to celebrate the awarding of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine to Professor Barry Marshall and Emeritus Professor Robin Warren.

Professor Barry Marshall is the UWA Brand Ambassador and Western Australian Ambassador for Life Sciences. This role is supported by the McCusker Charitable Foundation, the University of Western Australia, and other philanthropic organisations. It focuses on State science priorities related to medicine, health, data and science engagement.

Western Australia has a history of successful medical research and translation into health care and health policy outcomes, including Professor Marshall’s work on Helicobacter pylori. Western Australia’s strong base in this area is underpinned by collaboration between government, universities, research institutes and the private sector.

The Barry Marshall MicroBlitz Internship Program provides multidisciplinary training and community outreach experiences to science students at The University of Western Australia. Specifically, the internship offers second and third year science students the opportunity to be trained in cutting edge science and public outreach via the School of Biomedical Sciences and the School of Agriculture and Environment.

About the opportunity

Reporting directly to UWA’s Brand Ambassador and Western Australian Ambassador for Life Sciences or his delegate, you will manage the delivery of Public Engagement with Science training to science undergraduate students. You will coordinate interns to deliver STEM activities suitable for high school students, develop a dynamic curriculum that may include preparing students to present activities to high school visits to UWA, excursions to our partner sites and and engaging students in promoting science to the wider public in creative ways.

About you

To be considered for this role, you will demonstrate relevant tertiary qualifications and substantial relevant coaching and project coordination experience in the field of science. You will have experience working with STEM in the community, particularly high schools, and have demonstrated report writing skills and an ability to set priorities and to meet deadlines,

A current or the ability to obtain a National Police Clearance (NPC) and Working with Children (WWC) are both requirements of this position.
