About the Role

The Advancement Officer: Events, in consultation with Director: Advancement Services, is responsible for managing the staging of alumni, fundraising and corporate events and activities, including national and international events which contribute to the stewardship and fundraising programs undertaken by the Unit. In addition, this position provides administrative support to the Fundraising and Alumni teams within the Portfolio.

The Advancement Unit’s function is the strategic management of relationships to increase understanding and support among key University constituents. This includes alumni and friends of the University, members of the community and philanthropic organisations of all types. The unit aims to secure financial support from donors who wish to contribute to the achievement of the University of South Australia’s visions and values; engage alumni in the life of the University as volunteers, advocates, supporters and donors; and manage relationships with current and potential supporters of the University.

Core Responsibilities

  • Develop and prepare an annual operational plan to support the stewardship, fundraising and corporate events schedule (for local and overseas events)
  • Take a lead role in planning, negotiation and management of the logistical arrangements for events as specified including extensive liaison and oversight of relevant external suppliers and contractors
  • Liaise with working groups in the planning and management of events, including maintaining effective ongoing relationships with staff in other areas of the University
  • Ensure all event details and guest attendances are recorded on Raisers Edge (relationship management database) in an accurate and timely manner
  • Conduct ongoing reviews of stewardship, fundraising and corporate events, including the development of relevant performance measures to inform ongoing process improvements

Essential Skills and Experience
  • Tertiary qualifications in events, business, marketing, or a related discipline, or demonstrated equivalent skills and knowledge
  • Proven ability and experience in the design, development and implementation of multiple high profile alumni, fundraising events and/or public promotional activities in line with marketing objectives and budget criteria
  • Proven experience in providing advice on protocol issues relating to significant state, national and international events
  • High level interpersonal, written and oral communication skills, including public speaking experience, negotiation skills and the ability to relate to a broad cross-section of people within and external to the University
  • High level word processing and client relationship management database experience
