The primary responsibility of the Accountant is to support and assist a designated finance team with a broad range of high-level and complex financial management, reporting and planning responsibilities. Specifically, provide key staff with quality financial data, information and analytics to support Faculty/Portfolio decision making as well as assist as required, in the completion of the annual budget and forecast submissions through the build-up of staff management plans, nonemployment costs and other aspects of the financial statements and management accounting reports.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Contribute to successful delivery of tailored finance business services including analysis, reporting and advice. Uphold the customer engagement model ensuring excellent customer service and close engagement to deliver high quality financial support and services
  • Assist with the co-ordination, consolidation and analysis of budgets, forecasts and monthly reports, including analysis of both financial and non-financial information
  • Provide support and advice to the Finance Partner/Senior Finance Manager on key performance indicators through the development, maintenance and analysis of key data sets
  • Monitor and analyse the staff management plan of the Faculty/Portfolio to ensure that development and review of long-term staffing strategies are undertaken
  • Assist with the provision of accurate and timely preparation of high-quality information, analysis and reporting with respect to financial performance to support key users in financial planning and decision-making
  • Provide support and assistance to develop, co-ordinate and enhance processes and practices for budgeting, forecasting, monthly reporting, long term financial planning and key performance metrics through proactive identification of information gaps and inefficient processes
  • Utilise available finance expertise from within the specialised finance service offerings of the CFO Portfolio to deliver sound, pragmatic and executable financial and commercial recommendations and solutions
  • Provide support and training to finance staff in Faculties and Portfolios to ensure adherence to University policy and procedure

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • An undergraduate degree with a major in accounting, finance or other similar discipline, with subsequent relevant work experience
  • Certified Practising Accountant / Chartered Accountant (or studying towards completion) is desired
  • Experience at a senior administrative level in financial administration and related activities, preferably in a University or other large organisation with complex administrative structures, policies and procedures
  • Relevant experience in the preparation and monitoring of complex budgets and performance reports
