Our AccessAbility team plays a crucial role in ensuring that students with disabilities and medical conditions receive the support they need to succeed academically and personally. We are currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate AccessAbility Advisor to join our team.

As an AccessAbility Advisor, you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference. By providing personalized support and advocating for their needs, you will empower students to achieve their academic and personal goals.

You will work closely with colleagues from Student Wellbeing, including Counselling and Psychological Services, Campus Care and Student Advocacy, to ensure a holistic approach to student support. Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Working effectively as a member of the AccessAbility team to provide timely support for students with disabilities and medical conditions.
  • Contributing to the case management of students with complex support needs, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure holistic support.
  • Developing individualized adjustment plans for students living with disabilities, ensuring a customer-focused approach and promoting continuous improvement.
  • Providing clinical advice to students, academics, and professional staff based on industry standards.
  • Collaborating with faculties and schools to optimize the learning experience and success of students with disabilities.
  • Developing partnerships and maintaining networks with key internal and external stakeholders to ensure students receive appropriate support and referrals.
  • Participating in major events and activities related to promotion, recruitment, enrolments, and graduation ceremonies as required. 

With your clinical expertise and background in supporting students with a disability you will have the chance to further enhance your skills while contributing to the development and implementation of strategic initiatives to support students succeed I their studies.

This Fixed Term position is full time, at a HEW 7 Higher Education Level until June 2025 and will be based at Callaghan Campus (Awabakal and Worimi land)

About the Unit

The Student Wellbeing unit is tasked with ensuring that students have access to an integrated and coordinated program of support and risk management for non-academic matters. The focus of this unit is on providing health, wellbeing, and mental health services and support for students, along with support for AccessAbility and Equity initiatives to help students navigate a smooth and successful journey throughout their studies.

  • Relevant degree (including but not limited to Occupational Therapy, Psychology, Social Work, Special Education) and extensive relevant experience; or a combination of relevant experience and/or education and training
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain an environment that empowers students and promotes positive behaviours, positive learning, skills development and independence
  • Demonstrated understanding of disability legislation and related issues within an educational environment
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills including the capacity to build relationships and an inter-disciplinary way of working
  • Experience in dealing effectively with people from diverse backgrounds, public speaking and presenting information in an accessible format
  • Ability to identify, establish and manage positive working relationships with relevant groups, partner organisations and other key stakeholders
  • Commitment to the provision of ‘best practice’ in relation to students with a disability within the higher education environment and to the development of students as independent learners
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience of adaptive technology, inclusive teaching principles and practices and development of students living with a disability as independent learners
  • Previous experience in a clinical environment would be highly regarded.
