Joining our Talent Community

Our Talent Community is available to register your interest for sessional teaching and research opportunities.

Teaching Associates (sessional academics) play a vital role in Southern Cross University's teaching and teaching support activities. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to contribute to the education of undergraduate and/or postgraduate students across our key students across our key disciplines within Science and Engineering. Responsibilities will include preparing and delivering tutorials, assessing assignments, conducting student consultations, and fostering a positive learning environment.

We are also seeking interest from Facilitators, to assist in activity-based seminars, tutorials, and workshops, and Academic Researchers to join our research projects and initiatives.

About the Faculty

Southern Cross University’s Faculty of Science and Engineering is seeking expressions of interest from Lecturers, Tutors, Facilitators and Researchers to join our Talent Community.

The Faculty of Science and Engineering delivers undergraduate and postgraduate programs in the areas of Engineering Systems (with specialisations in Mechanical and Civil), Information Technology and Science (with specialisation in Environmental and Earth Systems, Marine Systems, Forest Systems and Regenerative Agriculture). The Faculty is committed to the delivery of high-quality courses informed by research leadership, which combine academic rigour with relevance to employment opportunities for graduates.

Areas of expertise that align with the Faculty of Science and Engineering are:

Science:

Agriculture; Biogeochemistry; Biology; Chemistry; Earth Science, Ecological Economics, Ecology; Environmental Science; Forest Science; Marine Science; Mathematical and Ecological Modelling; Plant Breeding, Plant Science; Regenerative Agriculture; Soils and Statistics.

Engineering:

Civil Engineering; Coastal Systems and Engineering; Environmental Engineering; Construction Management; Engineering Management; Mechanical Engineering and Mathematics.

Information Technology:

Business Analytics; Information Technology; Network; Cybersecurity and Software Development.


About you

We are seeking expressions of interest from individuals who possess a postgraduate level qualification (Masters or PhD) in Science, Engineering, Information Technology or related discipline, along with relevant professional and/or industry experience. In addition, candidates should have demonstrated teaching experience at a university level and proficiency in using eLearning software programs, such as Blackboard. Applicants who can showcase their ability to engage in research through publications will be viewed favourably.

Salary and benefits

Academic staff are remunerated according to the category of their duties, as detailed in SCU’s Enterprise Agreement . Ratesof pay can be found here.
