  • 1 x full time, fixed term ending 31/12/24, 1 x part time 0.6 FTE, continuing and 1 x part time 0.5 FTE, fixed-term opportunity (until 30/06/24) for Academic Liaison Librarians
  • Develop and deliver quality client-centred Library services for academics, higher degree by research students and other relevant areas of the University
  • Base Salary $91K (pro-rata for part time roles) + 17% superannuation

About the opportunity

We are in a period of exciting development within our University Library, striving to achieve an integrated and contemporary service offering aligned to the University’s strategy. We are seeking Academic Liaison Librarians to proactively build relationships with academic and professional staff to deliver client-centred education and research support services. Situated in a discipline-based team of librarians, you will design and deliver information and digital literacy programs to meet the current and future information needs of students and researchers. In addition, you will possess an understanding of the contemporary research landscape, including citation-based metrics and research impact. Working in an intellectually stimulating and flexible environment, this is a unique opportunity for you to make a significant contribution to teaching and research excellence across the university.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • build effective relationships with client groups to promote and market Library services
  • demonstrate a client-centred approach by seeking out, understanding and responding to the current and future needs of academics and students
  • provide high-quality information services to academics and higher degree by research students, both in-person and online
  • support students to develop information and digital literacy skills by partnering with academics on the design of assessments, learning objects and teaching support
  • support researchers in applying for competitive funding through the provision of research metrics reports and research impact advisory services

About you

  • experience as an academic librarian or related experience within a public library, gallery, archive, museum or other cultural institution
  • experience in designing, leading and evaluating teaching programs
  • a proactive approach to working with internal and external stakeholders to build effective working relationships
  • strong presentation and written communication skills
  • excellent problem-solving skills, professional judgement and the ability to take initiative
  • knowledge of the contemporary higher education and research landscape
  • ability to balance competing agendas and demands in a complex environment

Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the position.
