About the position

The Academic Director, Indigenous Education, reports to the Pro Vice-Chancellor Indigenous and is responsible for providing senior academic leadership and support to the University to improve teaching and learning outcomes and support the embedding of Indigenous knowledges into the curriculum.


Skills and Experience

To be considered for this position, you will have;

  • A PhD or equivalent accreditation recognized by the University / Profession.
  • A proven track record involving Indigenous Australian Knowledges and/or related to Indigenous Australian development, including a distinguished scholarly record with evidence of prominent leadership in teaching and learning.
  • Demonstrated capacity or potential to provide leadership in the development of curricula that are inclusive of Indigenous Australian Knowledges in a respectful and culturally appropriate manner.
  • Ability to form strong and respectful partnerships with internal and external stakeholders and to leverage these partnerships for the mutual benefit of all parties while delivering against institutional targets.
  • An understanding of the legislative environment related to Indigenous Australian Higher Education and a proven ability or demonstrated potential to react to changed policy or funding conditions to ensure institutional compliance.
  • Highly developed communication skills with an ability to lead and motivate others, to resolve conflicts and to confer with peers in other higher education organisations, to determine best practice approaches in program/service delivery.
  • Ability to demonstrate drive and integrity through a strong commitment to actions and taking responsibility for role modelling the professional behaviours important to the University.
  • Ability to support shared purpose, think strategically and harness information and opportunities to reinforce the vision for the future of the University.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and sustain collaborative relationships across the University, develop partnerships with diverse groups and individuals and actively guide the development of others.
