  • Commencement Salary: $101,784 per annum (plus 17% superannuation)


About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity for two Academic Developers to join our team.

Reporting directly to the Associate Director: Teaching Innovation Unit or Head: Curriculum Development and Support, the Academic Developer will work to promote knowledge and skills that underpin effective practice in relation to curriculum design, academic and professional literacies, blended and digital learning, assessment and evaluation, and scholarly research in the area of learning and teaching in higher education.

This interesting role requires an individual who holds a strong understanding of theories and practices of learning and teaching in higher education and can demonstrate their experience of working with a wide variety of Academic staff across various disciplines to design and develop curriculum to that engages diverse cohorts of learners.

About the Teaching Innovation Unit

The Teaching Innovation Unit (TIU) provides a range of services to academic staff of the University. It plays a major role in facilitating the promotion and implementation of institutional teaching and learning priorities, as well as working with aspects of the institution’s postgraduate research agenda. The Unit supports the University’s long-standing commitments to quality education, student-centred learning, and staff development which positions it as an innovative, outward-looking institution built on more than a centurys experience as a leader in educating professionals and applied research.

Core Responsibilities

  • Engage with University, TIU, and Academic Unit policies, priorities and strategic initiatives to improve student learning outcomes in programs and courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
  • Provide leadership in learning and teaching in relation to the development of an education environment that articulates strongly with the University’s strategic learning and teaching goals
  • Design and develop new online programs and courses, collaboratively with Academic Unit based academic staff, Dean of Programs, Associate Dean: UniSA Online, and Online Educational Designers
  • Advocate and support academic staff to design and employ flexible learning and teaching strategies that are sensitive to the needs of learners from a wide range of educational, social, and cultural backgrounds
  • Provide leadership in one or more areas of education specialisation (e.g. academic and professional literacies; assessment; technology enhanced learning; evaluation methodologies; quality assurance; learning analytics or work integrated learning) and actively contribute to the Unit’s research in these areas

Essential Skills and Experience
  • Demonstrated experience in the design and development of curriculum for on-campus, blended and online learning contexts
  • Understanding of theories and practices of learning and teaching in higher education and demonstrated scholarship in these areas, with a particular emphasis on the use of technologies to support student learning
  • Experience working strategically with a wide variety of Academic Unit-based staff and discipline areas within University structures, policies and processes to support TIU and Academic Unit priorities and strategies
  • Demonstrated capacity to evaluate the effectiveness of learning and teaching in higher education
  • Demonstrated research or professional experience in an area of education specialisation such as academic and professional literacies; assessment; technology enhanced learning; evaluation methodologies; quality assurance; learning analytics or work integrated learning
