Salary Range:
$66,844 - $72,093 p.a. (pro-rated)
Reporting to
Research Fellow, Cardiology
College of Medicine and Public Health
Under routine to general supervision, the Administrative Assistant is responsible for providing a range of academic administrative support to the Cardiology Research leadership team.
Key focuses of this role include academic proofreading and formatting, research literature search and collation, and administrative support for grant and manuscript submissions.

Key Position Responsibilities

The Administrative Assistant is accountable for:

  • Providing a range of high-quality academic research administrative support services including, but not limited to:

    • Using instructions or guidelines to Identify requirements of a given journal or grant opportunity as requested

    • Proofreading and formatting of manuscripts and grants in accordance with journal or grant opportunity requirements and instruction

    • Undertaking and supporting submission and revision processes for manuscripts and grants

    • Preparation of related documentation to manuscript and grant submissions

    • Liaising with investigators, collaborators, and other stakeholders

  • Maintaining accurate and detailed documentation of research activities

  • Meeting deadlines and ensuring all grant project and research requirements are met

  • Adhering to regulatory and compliance requirements

  • Any other responsibilities in line with the level of the role as assigned by the Supervisor and/or the University.

Key Position Capabilities

  • Completion of a tertiary level qualification with relevant work experience, or a combination of experience and/or education and/or training

  • Demonstrated effective organisational skills, exceptional attention to detail and agile work pace

  • Demonstrated strong investigative skills and excellent record management abilities

  • Demonstrated effective written communication skills with experience in academic proofreading, as well as document and correspondence preparation. 

  • Demonstrated ability to think critically and identify problems, raising this to the relevant team members in a timely manner 

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritise tasks according to deadlines.

  • Demonstrated experience with online academic library searches

  • Effective interpersonal and oral communication skills and the ability to relate to a wide range of staff at all levels.

  • Prior experience in providing administrative support for academic research activities in cardiology or other clinically orientated areas (desirable).


Prescribed Conditions for Employment

  • Flinders University has introduced a COVID-19 Vaccination Policy  that requires all new staff members to be up to date with their COVID-19 vaccinations, subject to medical exemptions and limited exemptions.

  • In addition, it is a requirement of this position that the incumbent maintain a current Working With Children Check which is satisfactory to the University in accordance with the Child Safety (Prohibited Persons) Act 2016 (SA).
