Overview
Kurongkurl Katitjin, Centre for Indigenous Australian Education and Research is a key part of Edith Cowan University’s commitment to Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, their families and their communities.

Kurongkurl Katitjin supports University-wide activities and programs, as well as activities specific to Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their cultures. This includes:

  • engaging closely with - Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities;
  • assisting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and staff to realise their full potential;
  • ensuring that individual differences and diversity are respected; and
  • contributing to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community development and sustainability through our students, staff and graduates.

The Aboriginal Tuition and Mentoring Program (ATMP), based within Kurongkurl Katitjin, works collaboratively with a dedicated Student Success Team to improve Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander student success. Key goals of the program are to promote self-directed learning, improve students’ self-awareness and address structural barriers to educational success that many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students may face.

The Role
This role is responsible for coordinating and administering ECU’s Aboriginal Tuition and Mentoring Program (ATMP), an initiative designed to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and enhance and develop their learning skills.

Key Criteria

  • A tertiary qualification with subsequent experience OR extensive experience and specialist expertise, OR an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, with an extensive understanding of social, educational, and cultural issues.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the demonstrated ability to manage relationships and build positive working relationships with others.
  • Ability to manage programs involving students and staff, with the capacity to facilitate training, maintain records and prepare reports.
  • Time management skills with the ability to prioritise and fulfil tasks.
  • Computer proficiency including demonstrated experience with the Microsoft Office suite of programs.

Benefits & Remuneration
This fixed-term, part-time position attracts a remuneration of $82,658 to $89,180 PA (pro-rata) plus superannuation.
