About This Opportunity 

We are seeking a self-motivated and adaptable person to join UQ Library’s sector-leading Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Services and Collections team. 



You will develop and provide a wide range of services, support and advice to Library clients with a focus on supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients and ensuring library services and collections are inclusive. You will coordinate and lead Library specific projects and activities that contribute to the University’s Reconciliation Action Plan and support Queensland’s Truth and Treaty priorities. You will use your knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander collections and information services to provide expert advice, and will represent the Library on relevant local, regional, national, and international projects, committees, and working groups.  Working under the direction of the Manager, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Collections and Services, you will be part of a team that prioritises cultural safety and wellbeing. 



Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants are advised collection materials they may interact with in this role may contain images, voices, and videos of deceased persons. Items in the collection may contain words and descriptions that may be culturally sensitive, and which might not normally be used in certain public or community contexts. Furthermore, terms and annotations within the collection can reflect the attitude of the author or the period in which the item was written and may be considered inappropriate today.

About You

The successful candidate will be required to provide evidence to confirm that they are an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person. 

You will be self-motivated and adaptable, demonstrating the following: 

  • A degree with subsequent relevant experience: or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training, ideally in an academic library or other large collecting institution.

  • Ability to build relationships with diverse groups both internal and external to the University.

  • A team player that can work collaboratively with others, with a positive and cooperative attitude and a mindset of inclusivity and support for colleagues 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including presenting, facilitating workshops and training, and preparing high quality reports, publications, and statistics .

  • Advanced digital skills, such as creation of web content or online learning materials.

  • Project management skills and experience.

  • Experience or interest in contributing to collaborative initiatives at regional, national, or international level. 


You must have unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this appointment and may be required to complete background checks including, criminal history and education checks.
