The Opportunity
We are seeking to appoint an Aboriginal Project Officer in the Wicking Dementia Research and Education Centre which is part of the College of Health and Medicine.
As the Aboriginal Project Officer you will support the MRFF-funded project “Privileging the spirit, voices, and culture of Aboriginal people in dementia care: Education for non-Aboriginal healthcare providers.” Which is a cross-disciplinary project conducted by the University of Tasmania, University of Melbourne, Neuroscience Research Australia (NeuRA), and the University of Western Australia. In this role you will assist in the recruitment of Elders in Tasmania and work closely with these Elders and the Chief Investigators to ensure the project is implemented and progresses smoothly.
In addition, you will:
- Support day-to-day administration including coordination of meetings and assistance with research administration.
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders including Aboriginal Elders and university staff by proactively responding to requests and facilitating business activities in a timely manner.
- Support project work and assist with project tasks as assigned by the Chief Investigator.
- Facilitate Elder’s participation in scheduled zoom sessions with the project team regarding the development and delivery of co-created content on culturally respectful and safe dementia care.
- With their agreement, facilitate Elders’ inclusion in the authorship of manuscripts and reports, and facilitate Elders’ participation in the development of an Advisory Board for the Wicking Dementia Research and Education Centre and service to guide culturally respectful and safe online education in dementia care for Aboriginal people.

What you will need to succeed
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Completion of a certificate level qualification with relevant work-related experience or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
- Experience in administration and/or project management and the ability to support project work within a complex organisation.
- Demonstrated interpersonal and negotiation skills and the ability to develop and maintain effective and outcome-focused partnerships.
- High level organisational skills with the ability to meet deadlines and prioritise tasks in a higher education work environment.
- Highly developed communication skills, along with the ability to solve problems and think flexibly to develop solutions.
- The ability to work independently, use initiative, maintain confidentiality and use sound judgement.
- Knowledge and awareness of issues facing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with dementia and/or chronic health issues,
- Demonstrated time management and problem-solving skills including the ability to prioritise work to meet tight deadlines and to work effectively and efficiently under pressure.

What’s on Offer?
On offer is a part time, fixed term role with salary packaging options and 17% superannuation. You will have access to staff benefits and discounts for health, fitness, accommodation, and banking to name a few. This role will attract a base salary starting from $69,646 plus 17% superannuation. The position is covered by the UTAS 2021 – 2025 Staff Agreement and the salary offer will be commensurate with relevant skills and experience.
