This is a joint appointment between the College of Sciences and Engineering (CoSE) and the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies (IMAS) with additional support from the Tasmanian Government through the Sustainable Marine Resources Collaborations Agreement (SMRCA). This role is aimed at enhancing the incorporation of Tasmanian Aboriginal culture, heritage, needs, aspirations, and interests in STEM education. It seeks to improve Indigenous relevance and content in the IMAS curriculum, which will also inform the development of other education programs within CoSE. In addition, the role will:

• Work with the Associate Dean Learning and Teaching Performance to establish a college-level working group to support Indigenising the Curriculum.
• Help identify, develop and implement educational programs for the College of Sciences and Engineering students and staff to support understanding of Tasmanian Aboriginal culture, heritage, needs, aspirations, and interests; and to encourage enrolment of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people into STEM courses offered by the University.
• Provide specific advice and contribute to work to evaluate and review IMAS academic teaching programs in relation to Tasmanian Aboriginal content and help to identify needs and opportunities for improvement and/or change.
• Work with the IMAS Executive Director and the Director of the SMRCA to provide advice and contribute to work to evaluate and review IMAS research programs in relation to Tasmanian Aboriginal content and help to identify needs and opportunities for improvement and/or change.

What’s Required

• A record of contributing to building and maintaining effective and productive links between Aboriginal people, wider communities, and other organisations.
• Good knowledge and awareness of local, national and international issues affecting Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.
• A bachelor’s degree in cultural studies, science and related sub-disciplines, engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Demonstrated capacity to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people including the requirement for genuine consultation and negotiation.
• Demonstrated high-level interpersonal, teamwork, and networking skills with the capacity to engage with diverse internal and external stakeholders and to relate well to students and staff.
• Demonstrated experience in the timely delivery of outcomes against milestones.

It is desirable to have previous experience or familiarity with the tertiary education environment and a knowledge and awareness of issues facing Tasmanian Aboriginal people. Established relationships with Tasmanian Aboriginal community members, organisations, and programs would be advantageous.

Remuneration

Appointment to this role will be at HEO 7 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $123,548 comprising base salary within the range of $96,071 to $105,597 plus 17% superannuation.
