The Dr. Senckenberg Anatomy at the Faculty of Medicine of the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University Frankfurt am Main invites applications for the following position as civil servant or public employee starting as soon as possible: 

Professor (W3) of Anatomy

The Faculty of Medicine is searching for an exceptional candidate who must have the “venia legendi” (Habilitation) in Anatomy or possess an equivalent teaching qualification in Anatomy. The successful candidate will become the Director of the Anatomical Institute II and is expected to represent the field of Anatomy, both in research as well as teaching. Participation in teaching of all areas of Anatomy for medical and dentistry students in German is mandatory. The Professorship carries the responsibilities of the Prosector and the body-donation program at the institution. A dedicated contribution to anatomical teaching, as well as participation in the planning of a light microscopic »imaging center« and the new building for the Dr. Senckenberg Anatomy are expected. Research areas of the faculty of medicine of the Goethe-University Frankfurt are cardiovascular research, neuroscience, immunology/oncology and translational pharmacology. Candidates with a “neurovascular research focus” are especially encouraged to apply, since the professorship is expected to link neuroscience and cardiovascular research. Expertise of high-resolution light microscopy techniques (e. g., confocal microscopy, multiphoton microscopy, STED microscopy) is advantageous. Active participation in the medical faculty´s research networks (e. g., Collaborative Research Centers, Graduate Colleges, DFG-EXS-2026: Cardiopulmonary Institute) is strongly encouraged.

Prerequisites for the professorship are university degrees in Medicine or biomedicine-related natural sciences, a doctoral degree and additional postdoctoral qualifications. These should be in the form of a Habilitation (postdoctoral thesis) or an equivalent academic qualification. Priority will be given to candidates with a university degree in Medicine. A strong publication record is expected, as well as the successful acquisition of third party funding. Experience in the teaching of anatomy, i.e. gross anatomy, histology, neuroanatomy are further prerequisites.

The formal hiring requirements are defined in sections 67, and 68 of the Hessian Higher Education Act (Hessisches Hochschulgesetz).
