As part of its leading involvement in developing the VISible Instrument (VIS) in ESA’s Dark Energy mission Euclid (to be launched in July 2023) a post is available for a Senior Research Fellow (Instrument Operations Team Scientist) at the Department of Space and Climate Physics (Mullard Space Science Laboratory), University College London. The role will require close collaboration with the VIS Instrument Scientist and Deputy, the VIS instrument team and wider science teams involved in the Euclid project, as well as the broader Euclid project at ESA. The successful applicant will develop calibration and in-orbit operational procedures and tools and review and generate reports on the VIS status and performance. The applicant may also pursue a programme of research in either gravitational lensing science or in galaxy formation and evolution.
A PhD in astronomy, space science or instrumentation is essential.
Applications will be accepted until midnight on 30 June 2023. The post is initially available until 31 March 2024, with the likelihood of further continuation. The starting salary range for this post is £46,514 to £49,147 per annum (including Fringe London Allowance of £2,100). From 1st August 2023 the Department will be entitled to full London Allowance.
