Australia - Favourite Study Destination
Australia is one of favourite study destinations for oversea students. There were about 500,000 international students in 2007 (about 5000 funded under Australian Government scholarships) from 190 countries studying in Australia. Many students are from China, India, Korea, Thailaind, etc. [1]
Major Scholarships for International Students
International Postgraduate Research Scholarships (IPRS)
IPRS scholarships open to international students from all contries except New Zealand. Scholarships are two years for Masters degress by Research and three years for PhD degree. It covers tuition fees, health covers for scholarships holders and (if applicable) their dependants. Students apply directly from the universities for IPRS scholarships. Eeach unversity has seperate application process and deadlines. IPRS scholarship deadlines are normally in August, September or October yearly.
Australian Leadership Awards (ALA) Australian Leadership Awards (ALA)
ALA scholarships focus on leader from develoing countries who can influence economic and social policy reform and development outcomes in their own contries and in the Asia-Pacific region. Each year there are upto 200 ALA scholarships for undergraduate (Masters or PhD degrees). Awardees are required to return to their original countries for minimum of two years upon finishing their course. Depending on the countries you are from, the scholarship deadlines are different. Normally the deadlines are in March.
Australian Development Scholarships (ADS)
ADS scholarships promote good govenance, economic growth and human development. ADS scholarships cover full tuition fees, return air travel, establishment allowance (about A$5,000), health cover, pre-course English feess, academic support, fieldwork (for research study) related cost. Awardees are required to return to their original countries for minimum of two years upon finishing their course. ADS deadlines are normally in May.
Endeavour Awards
Endeavour Awards is a highly competitive, merit-based scholarship program for citizens from Asia-Pacific, Middle East, Europe and US. This program includes Endeavour Executive Awards, Endeavour Postgraduate Awards, Endeavour Research Fellowships, Endeavour VET Awards, and Prime Minister's Australia Asia Awards. Application deadlines are varied.
