Description The Smithsonian Institution (SI) in Washington DC awards a 10-week internship for underrepresented graduate students to do museum-related research or work. The Smithsonian (SI) Office of Fellowships and Internships (OFI) offers this program. All sessions are full-time, 40 hours a week in either the summer, fall, or spring. The internship provides students the opportunity to experience the Smithsonian as a universal lens for learning and are inspired to learn, examine and collaborate in their specific academic fields that relate to current research at the Smithsonian. Interns will work under the supervision of research and professional staff members at the Institution’s many museums, research institutes and offices.
Award Amount Stipend of $550 per week with additional travel allowances offered in some cases.
Disciplines Humanities. Life Sciences. Physical Sciences. Social Sciences. School of Public Health. Animal behavior, ecology, and environmental science, including emphasis on the tropics; Anthropology, including archaeology; Astrophysics and astronomy; Earth sciences and paleobiology; Evolutionary and systematic biology; History of science and technology; History of art, especially American, contemporary, African and Asian art; 20th century American crafts, and decorative arts; Social and cultural history of the US; Folklife
Academic Level Prospective/Current Graduate Student.
Citizenship Open only to U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
Requirements This internship is for minority students. Must be formally enrolled in an graduate (or undergraduate) program. OR, must have completed their degree within the past 4 months. Students are generally expected to have an overall G.P.A. of 3.0 or its equivalent. Essay. Transcripts. Resume. 2 academic references.
