Post Doctoral Research Associate

Position Summary
A 2-year research position is available at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science to utilize a diverse array of existing datasets on fish and shellfish species in the Chesapeake Bay and coastal Atlantic Ocean to investigate relationships between environmental variables and climate drivers on population processes and food web interactions. The Chesapeake Bay is at the southern end of a zoogeographic zone known variously as the mid Atlantic Bight or Virginian province. This zone boundary is based on similarity of resident species in a swath of marine environment extending from Cape Cod, MA to Cape Hatteras, NC. Accordingly, the Chesapeake Bay is an ideal location to investigate the effect of climate drivers on single species and multispecies population processes. The Post Doctoral Research Associate will have access to several existing long-term fish and shellfish fisheries-independent monitoring data sets, as well as, accompanying environmental and climate information. The Associate will collaborate with an interdisciplinary group, including quantitative fisheries scientists, fish biologists, marine ecologists, and have the opportunity to interact with coastal fisheries managers.
Review of applications will begin June 1, 2012 and continue until a suitable candidate is identified. Start date is flexible but ideally the successful candidate would begin in summer or fall of 2012. For additional information on the project, please contact Robert J. Latour (latour@vims.edu).
Apply by submitting your curriculum vitae, brief description of research interests, and names and email addresses of three references. The College of William & Mary conducts background checks on applicants for employment.
Required Qualifications
The ideal candidate will hold a Ph.D. in Biology/Zoology, Marine Science or related disciplines at time of appointment and possess a strong background and demonstrated experience in statistics, fish population dynamics, and fisheries ecology.
