  • Research and identify local (municipal), state (Illinois), and federal grant opportunities aligned with Oakton Community College's mission, goals, and strategic initiatives.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and administrators to develop competitive grant proposals tailored to each funding opportunity.
  • Write and edit persuasive grant narratives, including project descriptions, goals and objectives, evaluation strategies, and budget justifications.
  • Prepare and submit grant applications, ensuring compliance with funder guidelines and submission deadlines.
  • Maintain a comprehensive database of grant opportunities, submitted applications, and awarded grants, tracking progress and outcomes.
  • Analyze and monitor grant awards, ensuring project alignment with funding requirements and identifying any necessary modifications or amendments.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key funding partners, including municipal, state, and federal agencies, as well as private foundations and corporations.
  • Monitor and stay current on trends and best practices in grant writing, sharing relevant information with the Grants Department and Oakton Community College community.
  • Provide training and support to faculty and staff in grant writing and proposal development, as needed.
  • Collaborate with the Interim Project and Compliance Manager to ensure smooth post-award grant management and reporting.

Job Requirements:


Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in English, Communications, Nonprofit Management, or a related field.
  • Master's degree preferred, especially in a relevant field.
  • Certification in grant writing (e.g., GPC, CFRE) is highly desirable.


Work Experience Needed:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in grant writing, with a successful track record of securing local (municipal), state (Illinois), and federal grants, preferably in higher education or nonprofit settings.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of grant research techniques and resources.
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with the ability to craft compelling narratives for diverse funding audiences.
  • Familiarity with Oakton Community College's service area and the specific needs and priorities of the local community.
  • Experience in working with diverse stakeholders, including faculty, staff, and funding partners.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
